Bug 1640

Summary: FreeDOS and Symantec Ghost 7.5 won't work together....
Product: Emm386 Reporter: hald <hald@epodworks.net>
Component: coreAssignee: emm386@freedos.org <emm386@freedos.org>
Status: RESOLVED DUPLICATE
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Version: unspecified
Hardware: PC
OS: FreeDOS

Description:   Opened: 2003-04-15 21:38
I downloaded the Beta 8 H1 and NC1 distros and can't see to get ghost to work!

Ghost comes with PC-DOS and the config.sys file looks like...

DEVICE=\net\protman.dos /I:\net
DEVICE=\net\dis_pkt.dos
DEVICE=\net\e100b.dos

None of the network drivers will load!

And I get more errors at the command prompt....

\net\netbind.com

The Ghost tries to run and fails with the following log file... The error is
generated even when I boot from FreeDOS CDrom and run ONLY the GHOST program.

I would think that one of the tasks that should be done is to test against
other programs written for MS-DOS or PC-DOS. One such program is
http://terabyteunlimited.com/bootitng.html.

If someone whats to work on this please contact me to talk about how we can
work on this given that Ghost is a commerical product.

you may want to try Drive Snapshot; this definitively works
with FreeDOS - and allows you to create disk images while
Windows (NT/2K/XP) is running.
see
www.drivesnapshot.de/en/makebootdisk.htm

Try not loading EMM386, it can cause protected mode problems.
Further, try upgrading to kernel 2030 and FreeCOM shell 0.82pl2 in
the XMS swap version.

Changing status to "LATER". LATER = as soon as VCPI got
added, you can try if there are other EMM386 problems
left which would trouble GHOST.

Missing VCPI support is a known issue and has a bug
report on its own.
