you may want to try Drive Snapshot; this definitively works with FreeDOS - and allows you to create disk images while Windows (NT/2K/XP) is running. see www.drivesnapshot.de/en/makebootdisk.htm

Try not loading EMM386, it can cause protected mode problems. Further, try upgrading to kernel 2030 and FreeCOM shell 0.82pl2 in the XMS swap version.

Changing status to "LATER". LATER = as soon as VCPI got added, you can try if there are other EMM386 problems left which would trouble GHOST. Missing VCPI support is a known issue and has a bug report on its own.
